Your mom was a very beautiful and elegant woman! Your stories remind me of my mom and my family, as I grew up in Brooklyn NY in a very ethnic Italian environment. She and my grandmother would take over the dining room and the kitchen every weekend to make macheroni and fresh bread. She also made a tuna and tomatos in Spaghetti. Sometimes she would make the sauce hot and spicy, and we would put it over the hard bread biscotti or frizaille.
I now cook and try to duplicate the same recipes for my family. In some cases, my sons have taken the recipes further and have done wonderful things with the basics!
